1. Information We Collect

VocabSwipe is designed with privacy in mind. We collect only the information necessary to provide the App's core functionality:

Learning Progress Data: Your vocabulary review history, word mastery levels, quiz scores, and daily learning streaks are stored locally on your device.
User Preferences: Your selected language level (A1-C2), daily goal settings, theme preference, and word type filters.
Device Information (via Google Play): If you download from Google Play Store, standard analytics may collect device type, OS version, app version, and crash logs to improve stability.
Optional Information: If you contact us for support, we may collect your email address, messages, and any attachments you voluntarily provide.

What We Do NOT Collect: We do not collect your name, precise location, contact list, photos, videos, browsing history, or biometric data unless you explicitly share it.

2. How We Use Your Information

Your information is used for the following purposes:

Personalizing your learning experience and tracking progress
Generating customized review sessions and quiz challenges
Storing achievement badges and daily goal milestones
Responding to support requests and improving App functionality
Detecting and preventing fraud, abuse, or security violations

We never sell, rent, or share your personal data with third-party marketers or advertisers.

3. Data Storage and Local Processing

VocabSwipe primarily stores your learning data locally on your device using encrypted SQLite databases. This means:

Your vocabulary progress stays on your phone or tablet
Your data is not automatically synced to our servers (unless you enable cloud backup in future versions)
Uninstalling the app will delete locally stored data
You have full control over when and how your data is shared

4. Third-Party Services and Analytics

Google Play Store Analytics: When you download VocabSwipe from Google Play, Google collects usage statistics, crash reports, and device information in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy. VocabSwipe does not integrate third-party analytics libraries beyond what Google Play provides by default.

No Advertising: VocabSwipe does not currently serve advertisements. We do not use advertising SDKs or tracking networks.

No Social Media Integration: The App does not integrate with Facebook, Twitter, or other social networks for tracking or sharing purposes.

5. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

VocabSwipe is designed for learners of all ages, including children. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar regulations:

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent
We do not use behavioral advertising or tracking targeting children
Parents can request deletion of their child's data at any time
All data processing is limited to providing the App's educational service

6. GDPR and Data Subject Rights (EU Users)

If you are a resident of the European Union, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

Right to Access: Request a copy of all data we hold about you
Right to Rectification: Correct inaccurate or incomplete information
Right to Erasure: Request permanent deletion of your data (the "right to be forgotten")
Right to Restrict Processing: Limit how we use your information
Right to Data Portability: Export your data in a machine-readable format

7. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data:

Encrypted local storage using SQLite with standard encryption
Secure app distribution through official app stores only
Regular security updates and patches
No transmission of sensitive data over unencrypted channels

While we strive to protect your data, no security system is 100% impenetrable. We recommend using a device PIN or biometric lock to secure your phone.

8. Data Retention

Your learning data is retained as long as you use VocabSwipe and for a reasonable period after account inactivity (if applicable in future versions). When you uninstall the app, all locally stored data is deleted. If you request data deletion, we will remove your information within 30 days.

9. Disclosure of Data

We do not share your personal data with third parties except in the following circumstances:

Legal Requirement: To comply with court orders, law enforcement requests, or legal obligations
Protection of Rights: To protect our legal rights, prevent fraud, or ensure app security
Service Providers: To trusted vendors who assist us (e.g., cloud hosting, if adopted), under strict confidentiality agreements
Aggregated Data: We may share anonymized, non-identifiable statistics about app usage with researchers or partners

15. Policy Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Changes will be posted here with an updated "Last Modified" date. Continued use of VocabSwipe constitutes acceptance of any revised Privacy Policy. We will notify you of material changes via the App or email (if contact information is available).

12. In-App Purchases and Billing

Pricing Model: VocabSwipe offers a free Standard version (A1 level only) and an optional Premium subscription ($4.99/month) for access to all levels (A1-C2).

Standard Version: Free to download and use indefinitely. No payment required.
Premium Subscription: Charged monthly through your Google Play account. Billing begins immediately upon purchase.
Payment Processing: All payments are processed through Google Play's secure payment infrastructure. We do not store payment card information directly.
Billing Cycle: Your subscription renews monthly on the anniversary of your purchase date unless cancelled.
Automatic Renewal: Your subscription will automatically renew each month unless you disable auto-renewal in your Google Play Store account (Account → Subscriptions → VocabSwipe Premium → Manage).
No Auto-Upgrade: Downloading the app does not automatically enroll you in Premium. You must explicitly purchase or subscribe to access Premium features.

13. Refund Policy and Cancellation

Google Play Refund Window: Refunds for in-app purchases are managed directly by Google Play Store. Users can typically request refunds within 15 minutes to 2 hours of purchase through their Order History in the Google Play Store app.

For subscription refunds, contact Google Play Support directly—we do not process refunds ourselves.
Cancelling your subscription stops future billing but does not retroactively refund prior months.
Premium access continues until the end of your current billing cycle after cancellation.
To cancel: Open Google Play Store → Account → Subscriptions → VocabSwipe Premium → Cancel Subscription

Refund Limitations: Refunds may be denied if abuse, fraud, or repeated refund requests are detected.

App Store Compliance: VocabSwipe complies with Google Play Store's data privacy and security requirements, including:

Transparent disclosure of data collection and use
Permission-based access to device features
Regular security audits and updates
Clear options for users to manage their data

16. Children's Billing Protection

VocabSwipe complies with app store requirements for protecting children from unauthorized purchases:

Premium purchases require explicit user action—no automatic charges.
Parents and guardians should set up purchase restrictions in Google Play Store parental controls.
If a child makes an unauthorized purchase, parents should contact Google Play Support for a refund.
